Best Laid Plans of Mice and Women

“The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry” is a famous line from a poem by Robert Burns. In the poem, the mouses’s house gets plowed over by a a farmer despite the mouse’s careful planning.

I feel for that little mouse. My house is still standing (in snow, I might add), but my plans have certainly gone awry. You may remember, in the past two blogs, that I felt like the Lord had moved me forward with a long-time thought to gather some of my neighborhood ladies for a luncheon to get to know each other better and perhaps begin a study together at some point.

Determining to step forward this month with “the plan”, I was going to start the invitations, only to be interrupted by our 6-8 inch snow and ice and another snow this past weekend! I still haven’t been able to walk up three driveways to get some of the neighbors’ phone numbers or emails. The time is soon ending before we leave on a month-long trip. So my wonderful January plan has, yes, “gone awry.”

Interestingly, a verse in my Bible reading today was Psalm 27:14. “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”

Well, there it is. That’s what he wants to teach me. His ways are always best. Then a thought that crossed my mind is that when I get my neighbors’ info, I could write them while we’re gone. Maybe we could share by email a quick thought each week. “Have you been in Louisville all your life or lived in other cities?” “Tell about your families.” “What are some of your favorite side dishes?”

One subject a week would help us get to know each other better and then by March we would really have fun meeting in person! Is that your idea, Lord? Better than what I had planned. As several of you have writtent to me, “Maybe God has another plan.”

We are under 10 degress these nights so the driveways aren’t melting much.  Again, would you pause just now and pray that I’m able to get info before we leave and the ladies will be open to sharing. Thank you, friends.
