Personal note on “Slaying a Giant”

Searching His Word Seeking His Heart
Searching His Word
Seeking His Heart

Interesting how God works. I wrote last week’s blog, “David—Slaying the Giant” a few days before the giant of congestive heart failure loomed over my mother.

At this writing she has nine days in hospital behind her and is presently in rehab. It has been quite an ordeal for her and long days for me. (8:00 AM to 8:00 PM.) It will be a ways for her to get back to independent living status. It poses many questions for me as caregiver.

During the process, I recalled how I wrote about David’s amazing faith that he could conquer his huge giant. I’m longing for that strength and usually have it. I know it’s there within me, but I have to be perfectly honest, I am weary to the bone.

I’m wondering how I’m going to manage it all when my mother comes back to her home next door to us. She has recovered well from the heart condition, but there are some aging challenges that have worsened. Many people think I always have it all put together, but I have to admit that I’m struggling and so I ask you, dear friends and readers. to pray for me that I would have strength and wisdom in dealing with this.

I’ll close with my own advice from last week—

Consider a giant in your life. It could be… or a problem with no foreseeable solution. Satan adorns and magnifies the giant and the giant tries to beat you down. Can you stand firm with David and say, “What is this giant that he (or it) should defy the power of God?” Is it possible that He has a solution as small as a stone?

Let us overcome the fear and walk by faith and not by sight.

Good advice. I weep as I try to heed it.

God knew this giant would come. It was no surprise to Him. He will carry you through this current stage, and the next, you just have to be willing to step into His mighty hands. You are not alone. You have family, friends, and resources available to you. God knows the next step, and the next, and the next. Trust in His unconditional love for you and Mimi. He is greater than our fear and worry. I sure love you!

    Dearest Joyce,
Oh how I understand our fatigue and weariness! I’m praying for rest; rest for the body and rest for the soul as you walk this journey. I bring to you some familiar scriptures that you can cling to. I Peter 5:7, Hebrews 13:5,
Matthew 11:28-30, Isaiah 40:29-31, and Psalm 55:22. I always found when caring for mom that God’s Word pierced my heart and strengthened when I felt I could go no further. Many will be uplifting you during these days, and I’m confident that God is faithful in our weaknesses. We love you and are bringing you before our Lord. Becky

Joyce, I took care of both parents for several years thru many health issues. In looking back I know the Lord was before me in every decision that needed to be made. He was my strength…it was not easy but if it had been I wouldn’t know Him and His provision like I know it now. Lord, be Joyce’s strength, give her the wisdom, peace and love she needs for every situation.

      Amen!

Blessings to you and your family.

It sounds trivial amongst the many responsibilities you’re tackling, but how often do we even overlook the blessing of a full restful sleep?
Take care as you need your own health, physical and spiritual strength for upcoming adaptations.
    Hugs,
    Ana

Joyce, I am praying right now for your dear mother and for you as you care for her. May God give you strength and wisdom and peace just at the times you need them. I pray that the upcoming days will be a very precious time with your mother. I missed you at the Chorale retreat this weekend, and as I read your blog, I kept thinking of a piece we rehearsed — a beautiful arrangement of an old hymn “He Will Hild Me Fast.” And I know He will hold you because he held me when I was caring for my mother during a similar circumstance. Keep looking up!

Thank you, Carolyn. It is the prayers like yours that have helped me through this trying time. God is working beyond me, guiding each step. How wonderful to know He is “holding me fast.” How strong, how tender are His hands.
