Joseph – Faithful to the End

As we take our final look at the life of Joseph, let us see two major perspectives: the hand of God at work in Joseph’s life and the faith of Joseph toward God.

In over-view, you see God at work, providing “ups” and allowing “downs”. Down in his brothers’ eyes, up in His father’s eyes. Down in the pit, up in the house of Potiphar. Down in prison, up to the Pharaoh. Down with his brothers, up with forgiveness.

God was consistently empowering him from above.

At the same time, Joseph’s faith is visible at every turn.

In Potiphar’s house—The Lord was with Joseph . . . the master saw that the Lord was with him . . . Genesis 39:2-3

To Potiphar’s seductive wife—“How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?” . . . day after day he refused her . . . Genesis 39:9-10

In prison—The Lord was with him . . . Genesis 29:21

The warden didn’t worry because he could see that—the Lord was with Joseph and gave him success . . . Genesis 39:23

The cupbearer and baker had no one to interpret their dreams—Joseph said, “Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell me your dreams.” Genesis 40:8

Pharaoh said he had heard that Joseph could interpret dreams. Joseph said, “I cannot do it, but God will give the answer he desires.” Genesis 41:13

After the interpretation, Pharaoh said, “Can we find anyone like this man, one in whom is the Spirit of God? Since God has made all this known to you, there is no one so discerning and wise as you.” Genesis 41:38-39

Can you believe this coming from a pagan leader? Even he could see that Joseph had reached up to God to guide and strengthen him.

Which prompts me to ask the question, is there evidence that others see the Spirit of God in me? In you?

Joseph lived 120 years. Some of his last words were reminiscent of Queen Esther:

“You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.” Genesis 50:20

Character counts. May we be found reaching up for the hand of God to build our faith.

Hi Joyce! ALL of these posts you’ve done on Joseph have been so good! My Wednesday Bible study group did a study by Kelly Minter on Joseph a while back and we loved it. You brought him to life! John and I are in Naples for a few days mainly for a respite. His new knee is 12 weeks old now, so he’s a lot better. Big hugs over to you😘 and blessings🙏🏼

THanks, Elizabeth, for being a faithful reader. Joseph was an amazing person and Scripture graciously gave us a rather full account. Tell John that 3 months will set him up for life now. I have my second knee replacement coming up in the fall. Fun, fun!
